July 2020: Holidays aren’t quite back, but the pubs and restaurants are slowly coming back, and the racing is on again, albeit behind closed doors. The summer of 2020 will be one that goes down in the history books and the memories as a very odd one indeed.
July 2020: Holidays aren’t quite back, but the pubs and restaurants are slowly coming back, and the racing is on again, albeit behind closed doors. The summer of 2020 will be one that goes down in the history books and the memories as a very odd one indeed.

But we are able to get out and enjoy this wonderful country a little bit more again, and after opening the shop and introducing some lovely new items, we’re ready for the summer in store.

Many people will be holidaying in the UK this year, and we can also look forward to BBQs, small family parties, and hopefully some outside smaller gatherings.

So, let’s get you kitted out with this summer’s must have post-lockdown outfits!

Want to stroll out of lockdown looking a little more stylish than you might feel? Book yourself a haircut first, then have a look at what we’re suggesting, fashion-wise.

Polo Shirts

The polo shirt though is best known for tennis, which was one of the first sports to be allowed to be played. You can serve an ace this summer with our comfortable but stylish polo shirts.

French tennis legend Jean Rene Lacoste gave the polo shirt its iconic status in the early 1900s and the style remains fairly untouched. A smarter alternative to the T-Shirt, our Brax polos shirts for the 2020 season are made from a fine mercerised cotton making them soft and crease proof.

Available in six colours including plain and with different trims, these are perfect for weekend wear, or evening family Zoom calls.

Chinos

As lockdown relaxes, the casual trouser with a sophisticated look is back.

Chinos are the perfect summer trouser as the light cotton material keeps you nice and cool. You’ll definitely want a pair if you’re holidaying in the UK this summer.

Available in a variety of colours and fabrics, we have chinos from Meyer, Brax, and Redpoint.

These chinos are ready now to pick up from store and in a range of different styles, fit, and price.

Shorts

One thing we were grateful for during the peak of lockdown was the incredible weather. We all missed the chance of an Easter getaway, but the UK rose to temperatures hotter than that of under Boris’ collar when asked to explain the difference between ‘Staying Alert’ and ‘Staying at Home’.

So we’ve all been wearing shorts to keep cool. If you’re not sure how to combine shorts with other items in your outfit check out this blog which also discusses the important issue of combining shorts with shoes!

We’ve got a great supply of shorts from Redpoint which are tailored shorts and in five classic colours; navy, blue, sky, pink or mustard. We also have a printed (more casual) short by Redpoint, too.

Denim Jeans

Summer doesn’t always bring up images of jeans, as the Denim material tends to be thicker and too warm for the summer months. But jeans do come in a variety of styles and adapt to the weather just as well as well as parents adapted from office managers to home school supply teachers.

Our summer jeans are lightweight and have a small amount of elastane for stretch comfort. Available in two colours and fits by Brax, we have the classic 5-pocket jeans style plus a smarter trouser style jean by Meyer. These look perfect with a classic black or white polo shirt for simplicity.

Shirts

The office may well have been shut during lockdown, but the dependable shirt was still out in force. Zoom meetings still required an air of professionalism and the office suit was still in high demand… in the early days anyway.

Of course, as all good news readers will tell you, trousers were optional… unless you planned to stand up and grab a cuppa during your virtual meeting!

We’ve got some cool cotton summer shirts in for this lockdown relaxing season. Our selection includes summery floral prints, checks and stripes. Plain colours are also available for linen or denim summer shirts. The denim summer shirts are excellent for that weekend away you’ve been planning for months.

Hats

One thing we can all agree on is the NHS did a sterling job as we stayed home. Hats off to them all, as well as everyone involved in keeping the UK moving and as safe as possible.

If you want to keep your head out of the sun and perspiration free, the gentleman’s choice is a panama hat. We don’t offer baseball caps for summer as they’re not really in line with our range, but we do have linen flat caps in blue or a natural shade. These are perfect to keep the sunshine from causing sunburn or heatstroke during the hottest hours of the day, but also offer a stylish look in the evening.
