This year hasn’t quite gone to plan so far, has it? The Coronavirus pandemic and subsequent response from governments all over the world to lock down countries has been a shock that many businesses and institutions have struggled to cope with.
This year hasn’t quite gone to plan so far, has it? The Coronavirus pandemic and subsequent response from governments all over the world to lock down countries has been a shock that many businesses and institutions have struggled to cope with.

Almost everyone is affected. 2020 is certainly the year the world stopped and re-evaluated everything. We’re living through a significant period in history right now.

One area of the world that is still (at the time of writing this) hugely affected by social distancing and all that comes with it is the events industry. We (along with millions of others) have seen the summer wiped from our business board. The wedding season is a key part of our world and one that – for now – looks set to be postponed to later this year, or even 2021.

Some optimistic onlookers in the media and events industry do seem to think that we’ll have ‘some’ weddings this year and that – as the lockdown is eased – we’ll see some return to normal.

So perhaps you’ll be attending a winter wedding then? Maybe. Let’s take a look at what you could wear at a winter wedding to ensure you look dapper heading to church or hotel post-Corona.

Textures

For a winter wedding you can consider a suit made from a more substantial cloth. Unlike the summer, you’ll get away with something thicker and warmer, and when you’re outdoors you’ll be appreciative of it, too.

Whether you’d like a long tails outfit or a lounge suit, we can provide heavier or lighter weight fabrics. In Winter you can offset your suit with a wool or tweed waistcoat to add more texture, or your tie choice could be made from wool instead of the traditional polyester or silk.

It’s a real plus point of the colder months. You’d rarely consider a weighty fabric in the summer.

Colours

You can of course go for any colour you wish, but the winter months and all that come with them do lend themselves to a different palette.

For autumn and winter weddings, popular colours tend to be darker shades like navy blue, burgundy or dark green. The richer, warmer colours will be more suitable and more in keeping with the season. That said, for this autumn/winter season we are expecting cool colours like sky blue or silver grey to be popular.

Styles

Different season, different style? You bet! The autumn/winter season brings big change to our store and although there are many styles available all year round, it’s nice to go seasonal where you can and during the colder months, these styles will be available in abundance.

Are you getting married?

If you’re thinking of having a small intimate gathering for your big day due to the restrictions likely to still be in place, then you might have a bigger budget per outfit. Why not opt to go for made to measure suits instead of the off-the-peg or hire wear? You can of course go for a mixture of those; keeping the groom and groomsmen in complementing styles

· With made-to-measure suits you can choose your own style and fit.

· Tailored fit suits can have a shorter jacket length and tapered trousers which is common with lounge suits.

· Our off-the-peg or hire suits tend to offer a more classic fit and style.

Is it much different in the winter?

Wedding wear for winter is very much the same. The only real changes could be the size of your wedding party, number of guests and the way in which you can choose wedding wear from our store if you haven’t done so already.

Of course, this year and beyond will be different (as will much of life), but choosing your suit, dressing and enjoying a winter wedding shouldn’t put too much of a spanner in the works if you don’t let it!

What do we need to consider for winter wedding attire?

If you are rescheduling your wedding for later in the year you might want to think about adjusting your colour scheme. We can help you with what colour suits will work best with the colours you’re considering.

When you’ve decided when you’ll reschedule for, do let us know and we’ll do our best to help.

We’re currently working on re-opening (find out more about that here) and when we do, we’ll be working by appointment only for weddings, keeping meetings with brides and grooms or groom + 1 initially.

As ever, things are constantly evolving so please do contact us if you have any questions or if you’d like to talk about your wedding attire.
