Fashion styles come and go and what you’re wearing this year is likely to be different from what you wore last year. Although there are many fashion styles that tend to stay with us, you’ll see delicate changes and updates as the seasons come and go.

Fashion affects most of the clothes that we buy and there’s no change when it comes to the stalwart of men’s fashion and clothing – suits!

Suits might look very similar on the face of it, but as we’ve shared a few times on this blog, suits come in many different styles and for all types of occasions.

There are four main areas to choosing the style and fashion of your new suit. These are:

· Colour

· Cloth

· Style

· Fit

These can vary massively and with the change of seasons the style of suit you’ll want to consider will change.

Let’s take a look at the colour, cloth, style, and fit that you need to consider.

Suit colours

Gone are the days when suits were black or grey and blended in with everyone else. Back in the early days of the suit they were worn when working in all sorts of environments and it wasn’t unusual for working men in very dirty jobs to be wearing at least a shirt and tie. So colours of a light nature simply weren’t practical.

Now of course, most of us work in a cleaner environment and the suit can be worn for many different occasions. The colours you can expect to see this year will once again be blue and grey.

This will vary in shade and you can expect to see anything from light grey through to charcoal, navy blue, and even soft blue/grey shades.

Black is very much for formal wear and black is, once again, the new black. Play with these colours to stay very 2019… or buck the trend if you dare!

Suit cloth

When it comes to choosing a suit you’re certainly spoilt for choice with fabrics.

In 2019 so far suit patterns have been quite subtle and understated and this looks set to continue. Gone are the bold checks or stripes you may remember from the 80s, as suits go back to being quieter and more civilised.

Expect to see light, textured patterns, special cloth weaves, or the type of pattern you can only really notice when you’re close up to it.

Suit cloths in 2019 are almost plain, but not quite. Suit cloths that have a little interest going on and a close-up surprise are where you need to be on trend for 2019.

Style of suits

As with all suits, the fashions will vary on the style of the suit too, so let’s look at what’s in style for the three main areas of your suit.

Jackets – This year the single breasted, two button jacket is once again prevalent and back in favour. Go for detailed linings, trims, and then choose complementing buttons and button stitches to get a really good suit and perfect style for you.

Trousers – The style of trousers will always vary from seasons and years and in 2019 we’re going with a straight cut trouser with a plain hem.

Waistcoats – Adding some extra style? Then a waistcoat (made more famous to the masses by Gareth Southgate in the last world cup) is a great addition to your wardrobe. This year the best style for your waistcoats is a matching or contrasting single breasted, and sometimes one with a lapel.

The fit of your suit

Once again, another huge area of change in any fashion is the fit. From flares to skinny jeans, fashions go from one extreme to another and we’re sure you’ve seen and probably worn many of them.

So, what’s this year’s best fit?

A tailored silhouette… but not too slim!

The super-slim fit is moving on and now a more tailored approach is taking the baton.

· Most men who want something fashionable are now opting for a jacket that’s slightly on the shorter side in length.

· And some trousers are coming through with a single pleat at the top, giving more room around the thigh.

It’s important to balance what’s on trend with what suits your taste and size, and we can help you find the perfect suit for your body shape and preferences, no matter what the occasion.
